NURSE UNIT MANAGER – Post Anaesthetic Recovery Unit (PACU)

Norwest Private Hospital is in the rapidly developing North West corridor of Sydney and is operated by Healthscope, a leading provider of private healthcare in Australia.  The hospital has 277 beds and is a high acuity facility with a performing Emergency Department located in Sydney’s Bella Vista.

 

The Role

The opportunity exists for a highly motivated and energetic nurse leader with exceptional operational and clinical skills to join the management team of this well established and highly regarded hospital. Working within the perioperative services team, the PACU Nurse Unit Manager reports to the Peri-Operative Services Manager and will be responsible for the daily activity, planning of patient flow and allocation of nursing resources to ensure best practice outcomes for patients.

 

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:

  • Develop and build a dedicated, highly qualified and professional team
  • Have extensive PACU clinical skills and knowledge
  • Utilise excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills and be able to motivate and influence a positive workplace culture that promotes professionalism
  • Have a working knowledge of flexible rosters, budgets and key performance indicators
  • Promote an excellent work ethic
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills with the ability to lead by example
  • Understand surgical patient flow strategies
  • Build strong relationships with Doctors and other stakeholders
  • Drive a positive culture and lead a team that promotes professionalism
  • Develop, implement, evaluate and improve quality processes
  • Promote safe working environment

 

The Department

Our state of the art Operating Suite complex comprises of 19 operating theatres, 32 Stage 1 Recovery bays and 32 Stage 2 Recovery chairs.

The operating theatres covering a range of specialties including orthopaedics, neurosurgery, cardiac, robotics, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ENT, dental, colorectal and general surgery, bariatric surgery interventional cardiology, vascular, plastics and endoscopy patients. The Unit admits both day and surgical patients requiring overnight or longer episodes of care.

 

Essential criteria

  • Current Registered Nurse AHPRA registration
  • 5 years’ extensive and current clinical practice in an PACU role
  • Relevant Post Graduate tertiary qualifications, or willingness to work towards
  • Demonstrate ability to organise their work in a systematic, accurate and timely manner displaying flexibility in a changing environment
  • Knowledge of Quality processes, clinical indicators and audits
  • Previous management/coordinator experience in an acute hospital setting
