About Northern Beaches Hospital


Operated by Healthscope, Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) is located in Frenchs Forest in Northern Sydney just 13kms north of the CBD. The hospital is a contemporary 488 bed facility comprising of 60% public and 40% private beds. We provide a wide range of health services to the local community including Surgery, a 50 bed Emergency Department, Intensive Care, Birthing, Paediatrics, Cardiac, Mental Health, Dialysis, Cancer Centre and Outpatients.
NBH has thirteen operating theatres, one hybrid/cardiac catheter theatre, two Catheter Laboratories and four endoscopy procedure rooms, all supported by a critical care unit which includes two intensive care wards.


About the Role

Senior Speech Pathologist (Level 3)  - 12 month Maternity Locum - Full Time (38 hours per week)

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Speech Pathologist to join the Speech Pathology Department at the Northern Beaches Hospital. This hospital provides care to public and private patients from an outstanding facility with a large range of quality services provided by exceptional allied health teams, midwives, nurses, doctors and staff. 

As a Senior Speech Pathologist, you will make a positive impact and enable patients to achieve their swallowing and communication goals in an acute environment by:

  • Providing professional, evidence based, high quality speech pathology assessment and intervention.
  • Developing positive working relationships with Medical Officers, Nursing Staff, Allied Health Professionals and other staff members 
  • Participating in and providing educational support to patients and their significant others, supervision, quality improvement and professional development

This position is a temporary full time maternity locum (38 hours per week) commencing in December 2025 for approximately 12 months.

Selection Criteria:

  • Extensive clinical knowledge and experience in assessment and treatment of adults with swallowing and communication disorders in the acute setting, inclusive of experience as a Level 2 Speech Pathologist or higher. VFSS and/or FEES competency essential. Tracheostomy skills highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with independent professional judgment and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage workload demands, meet deadlines and complete activities within scope of practice
  • Experience in development, leadership and implementation of quality improvement projects
  • Previous supervision +/- leadership experience
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills across all levels
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence based practice.
