Clinical Coding Pre-Billing Auditor
An exciting opportunity is currently available for a Clinical Coding Pre-Billing Auditor to join the friendly and supportive Health Information Services team at Northern Beaches Hospital. This is an important role supporting our clinical coding team within the quality and revenue assurance space.
Northern Beaches Hospital is a fully licensed private hospital, providing care to public and private patients from an outstanding facility with a large range of quality services provided by exceptional nurses, doctors and staff.
The position would suit a highly motivated individual with excellent clinical coding skills seeking to expand/consolidate their experience working with a more complex casemix and who is ready for a new challenge.
Day to day tasks include the following:
- Provide sound advice and guidance to Clinical Coders with respect to the Australian Clinical Coding Standards and National and State coding advice
- Review coded episodes prior to invoicing to minimise coding and documentation inaccuracies
- Resolve ambiguities in the coding and documentation by seeking clarification from relevant coding advisory committees and clinicians
- Contribute to the analysis of revenue recovery, including identification and analysis of coding and documentation deficiencies
- Contribute to internal and external audits as required, including follow up on audit recommendations and reports
- Perform data and revenue quality functions as required
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders regarding coding and documentation issues.
Essential criteria:
- HIMAA Intermediate/Advanced Clinical Coding or auditing course
- Strong background in clinical coding with at least 5 years of recent experience at a medium to large acute hospital
- Keen interest and understanding about the commercial implications of coded data
- Must be competent in the use of MS Excel
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to prioritise and time manage
Desirable criteria:
- Bachelor of Applied Science in Health Information Management (or equivalent)
- Clinical Coding Audit qualification
- Knowledge of webPAS patient administration system
- Previous private hospital experience
