Opening 30 October 2018, Northern Beaches Hospital will be a fully licensed private hospital, providing care to public and private patients from an outstanding facility with a large range of quality services provided by exceptional nurses, doctors and staff.  

As a Patient Liaison Officer, you will report to the Bookings & Admission Centre Manager and take responsibility for maximising the use of private health insurance by patients that require admission to the Hospital via the Emergency Department (ED), for the benefit of patients and the Hospital. 
You will:
  • Identify through efficient and customer-focused interview approaches, those patients in the ED that have private health insurance and promote to them the benefits of electing to use their private health insurance on admission to the Hospital
  • Maximise the reimbursement revenue that the Hospital receives for the care it provides to patients by thoroughly assessing all ED admissions to the Hospital and determine their correct financial classification (Public, Private, MVA, DVA, Workers' Compensation, Ineligible Overseas Visitors, Armed Forces Serving Members, etc.)
  • Liaise with patients and carers, medical officers, admissions staff and the clinical coordinator (patient access services) and provide relevant, timely and accurate information to patients, so they can make an informed decisions about using their private health insurance on admission to the Hospital
  • Provide day to day support to all levels of staff within the Emergency Department regarding patient financial classification, health fund business rules and Hospital admission policy information
  • Continually seek new ways to improve processes, customer service and patient experience
  • Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team comprising medical, nursing, billing and administrative staff. 

You will bring to our high-performing team:

  • Customer service and marketing skills
  • Sound knowledge of private health insurance, patient financial classifications and hospital admissions processes
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to deal confidently and courteously with people at all levels
  • A desire to achieve KPIs and satisfy patient’s needs
  • Experience with WebPAS or similar patient administration systems
  • Previous experience in the private or public healthcare industry
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Medical terminology knowledge (desired)
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills
