2020 New Graduate Midwifery Program



 

Our New Graduate Midwives participate in a 52-week program which enables you to make the transition from newly Registered Midwife to competent practitioner. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills within the exceptional facilities at Norwest, under the guidance of experienced and supportive staff.  Our Women’s Health Unit at Norwest Private Hospital is only eight years old and has a reputation for excellence.  We have 43 beds, 7 birthing rooms and 7 special care nursery beds and over 2100 births annually.  We are a busy and dynamic unit with close teaching ties to Western Sydney University and long standing relationships with some of Sydney’s leading Obstetricians.  Norwest Private is a 277 bed Healthscope Hospital that offers a wide variety of specialty and critical care services. 




As a New Graduate Midwife, we will offer you:

  • A structured program with rotations through gynaecology, antenatal clinic, post natal ward, birthing suite and special care nursery

  • Clinical support from the WHU Educators, Hospital Education Team, and Senior preceptors in all clinical areas.

  • Comprehensive Orientation program, supernumerary days at the beginning of each rotation.

  • Mandatory paid study sessions each month.

  • General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics

  • Maxillofacial & Dental Surgery, Neurosurgery, ENT

  • Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery

  • Urology and Vascular Surgery

  • Weight control Surgery and support for Obesity management

 


Selection criteria
  • You MUST be eligible for registration as a midwife with the Nurses and Midwives Registration board (AHPRA), including English language requirements

  • Australian Citizenship (eligible to work in Australia, full time hours, or a Visa which permits employment in Australia or citizens residing in Australia who hold a current Special Category permit and have Permanent Resident status). 

  • Must be able to work a full-time 7-day rotating roster.

  • Applicants must have graduated within 6 months of application, to be eligible.

 

Application Process:

  • Letter of application.

  • Curriculum Vitae including 2 referees. One referee must be a clinical teacher, preceptor, or other senior nurse that you have reported to at a clinical placement within the last 12 months.  The other referee must be a current or previous manager in a place of employment. This does not have to have been employment in the nursing or midwifery field.

  • Signed copies of two recent clinical assessments.
