Are you an experienced and competent Health Information Manager or Clinical Coder with exceptional interpersonal and decision making skills? Do you enjoy working in a friendly and collaborative team environment? An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Health Information Manager or Clinical Coder to join our professional team.

Knox Private Hospital is a large, tertiary level private hospital servicing the medical and surgical needs of Eastern and Greater Melbourne.  Knox has undergone extensive redevelopment with a new Emergency Department, Cath Labs and Day Procedure Centre and offers a diverse Casemix and complexity.

Health Information Services has a team of seven experienced HIMs and Clinical Coders and two Clinical Documentation Specialists in a supportive and collaborative department. Knox Private offers an environment of recognition and support underpinned by our Organisational Values.

Experience coding in an acute hospital environment is essential. 


To be successful in this position, experience in clinical coding, strong time management and problem solving skills will be required. 


 As a Health Information Manager / Clinical Coder your responsibilities will include:

  • Coding discharges with a high level of accuracy and integrity.

  • Participate in regular Casemix management meetings

  • Liaise and communicate with other departments and external stakeholders.

  • Participate in Clinical Documentation Improvement initiatives and support the established CDI program

  • Assist with the timely extraction and submission of mandatory data reporting

  • Participate in the Workplace Health and Safety and Quality Improvement programs.


Essential Criteria:
  • Bachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent or recognised Clinical Classification certification.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Coding experience with knowledge of ICD-10-AM (11th edition) , ACHI & ACS

  • Sound understanding of Codefinder & Turbocoder

  • Demonstrated experience in the extraction and submission of data to external parties

  • Strong organisational skills in planning, prioritising and managing workload


Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of private sector funding models

  • Knowledge of  WebPAS patient administration system
