The Opportunity
Peninsula Private Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and supportive Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) with experience in Surgical nursing and High Dependency care to lead our Surgical Ward and support the development of our future High Dependency Unit (HDU).
This senior leadership role is responsible for providing clinical, operational and strategic leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care aligned with organisational goals.
This is a permanent full-time position (76 hours per fortnight).
The Role
Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Nurse Unit Manager will lead the 23-bed Surgical Ward and play a key role in preparation for the planned five-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU).
- Clinical and operational leadership of the Surgical Ward and HDU preparation
- Delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care
- Workforce, financial and resource management
- Accreditation readiness and continuous quality improvement
- Compliance with NSQHS Standards and Work Health & Safety requirements
- Collaboration with Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs)
- Staff development through coaching, mentoring and performance management
- Promotion of a positive, engaged and safety-focused team culture
- Support of effective patient flow and operational efficiency
About You
You are an experienced nursing leader with strong operational capability, excellent communication skills and a commitment to staff development and patient-centred care. You are proactive, collaborative and outcomes focused.
Selection Criteria
- Current AHPRA registration
- Minimum four years’ experience at NUM level or equivalent
- Experience in an acute hospital setting, preferably Surgical and/or HDU
- Current Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
- Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Demonstrated cannulation competency
- Strong knowledge of the NSQHS Standards
- Demonstrated workforce and human resource management experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High-level computer literacy
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and time management skills

Peninsula Private Hospital is a 62-bed facility located on the Redcliffe Peninsula, providing Surgical, Medical and Rehabilitation services with an expanding Perioperative Department. The hospital is undergoing significant growth, including expansion of theatres and commissioning of a new High Dependency Unit in late 2026.
