Peer Support Worker

 

Are you a highly motivated, trauma informed Peer Support Worker looking for a new and exciting position? Are you passionate about supporting and improving the well-being of those with mental health and / or addiction challenges?

 

The Sydney Clinic is seeking an experienced Peer Support Worker to join our Mental Health Team. You will play a key role within a supportive Allied Health team, working closely with our Registered Nurses to ensure a high level of patient support to inpatients and outpatients.

As a Peer Support Worker your responsibilities will include:

 

·         The successful applicant will be required to work in a team approach, to help the hospital be responsive to patients with a range of mental health disorders, in a manner that maintains appropriate professional boundaries and self-care.

 

·         The position includes consumer group facilitation.

 

·         Attending Consumer Focused/Team Meetings and liaising with management to provide insight into the illness from the patient’s perspective.

 

·         Providing individual recovery-based support, sharing your lived experience to foster hope and resilience in others.

 

 

Essential Criteria:

·         Experience of mental health condition, as a consumer/patient, and recovered from the disorder for a minimum of three years

 

·         Strong interpersonal skills to manage groups and individual interaction

 

·         Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and self-care

 

·         Effective communication skills

 

·         Ability to work independently and seek advice/assistance appropriately

·         Commitment to providing a consumer perspective.

 

Desirable Criteria:

 

·         Experience of inpatient / outpatient private hospital services, as a consumer/patient

 

·         Introductory training in mental health / peer support

 

·         Prior involvement with community based groups and/or as a volunteer
