About the Anaesthetics Department

The Anaesthetics Department at Northern Beaches Hospital currently comprises approximately one hundred VMOs, six trainee registrars who call the ‘Beaches’ home, two registrars who rotate from a training program and our departmental administration assistant – and we continue to grow! All specialties are catered for within the Interventional Suite and as a registrar you will have access to experience all of these. The large group of VMOs bring a uniquely varied anaesthetic expertise and as such your teaching opportunities are many and varied.

The Anaesthetics Department has an excellent relationship with the other critical care specialties such as Emergency and Intensive Care and there are many shared educational sessions. Our department is currently accredited with The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and all our registrars have access to the Supervisors of Training who assist with teaching and examination practice, rostering and mentoring. There is also a dedicated Welfare Officer to help along the way. The department is ever evolving and as such there is ample opportunity to get involved with new procedures and policies, audits and projects.
