About the Opportunity
Live and work on the iconic Northern Beaches of Sydney at NBH! We are seeking enthusiastic and clinically experienced nurses who are passionate about patient care to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team. We offer state of the art equipment in world class facilities, utilising EMR (electronic medical records) and MEDCHART (medication management/administration) systems.
Located on the first floor, NBH's ICU has 20 beds. It is a general Intensive Care Unit catering for the needs of the area with key specialities including cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, general surgery as well complex medical cases. We also provide specialist care for patients admitted through the hospital’s busy emergency department and play a key role in the hospital’s Clinical Emergency Response team. The ICU is dedicated to caring for patients with life-threatening illnesses and complications, and for monitoring potentially life-threatening conditions. It provides special expertise and facilities for the support of vital functions, using the skills of medical, nursing and allied teams.
You will be a pro-active team player, with demonstrated ability and desire to be part of a dynamic work force, mentor junior staff and participate in quality improvement. Although a rotational 24/7 roster is in place, we offer flexible self-rostering and 12 hour shifts. We are inclusive with diverse and friendly teams, with options for flexible shifts so you can achieve the balance you desire.
The Unit offers a full range of intensive care services to all patients, including:
- invasive monitoring
- mechanical ventilation support
- renal replacement therapy (dialysis)
- advanced cardio-vascular support
- point-of-care coagulation testing
- procedural services
- tracheostomy insertion and management.
The experienced Intensive Care team have a broad range of interests - such as echocardiography, extra corporeal membrane oxygenation, transplant medicine and retrieval medicine - and undertake weekly multi-disciplinary education sessions to ensure an advanced skill set.
Essential Criteria:
As the ideal candidate for the role, you will have:
- a current Registration with AHPRA or In-Principle approval.
- Minimum 2 years post graduate experience in a local ICU
- Sound clinical decision making and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent ability to work independently and as a team
Desirable:
- Post Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Nursing

If you are successful in the role, you will receive a salary based on your years of relevant registered nursing experience against the current Healthscope and NSWNMA/ANMF – NSW Nurses and Midwives’ – Enterprise Agreement 2020 – 2024, a salary ranging from $35.46 - $49.79 per hour.
