Healthscope is Australia’s second biggest provider of private healthcare, operating 43 hospitals with a team of more than 33,000 nurses, doctors and staff who treat more than 600,000 patients each year. We are looking for a highly motivated, solutions-driven Data Analyst to join our evolving team. The Data Analyst role will be responsible for the design, engineering, development, visualisation & support of advanced analytics, delivered both through self-service reports, dashboards and adhoc insights, that will inform and support decision-makers across the business including hospital operations, health fund contract management, procurement and more.

This role calls for a high degree of focus and attention to detail.  You must also have a solid understanding of the application of data in context and how it affects the business. Position Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with business analysts & partners to develop an understanding of operational objectives & challenges in decision-making
  • Data exploration, acquisition and ingestion. Work alongside business & technical partners and the Data & Analytics team to optimise data capture, storage, & maintenance
  • Create and maintain data models, applying a range of analytical frameworks & statistical transformations to generate meaningful insights
  • Storytelling & Contextualising insights for users (of varying sophistication) through dashboards, self-service reports and adhoc analytics
  • Support users & continuously optimise insights, promoting Data & Analytics as a service centre for decision-makers
  • There is a continuous improvement element to the role and time will be made available to continue to enhance and refine your skills, particularly in data science


Selection Criteria:

  • Bachelor or Graduate degree in a quantitative field such as actuarial sciences, computer sciences, mathematics, statistics, engineering or natural sciences
  • Proficiency in SQL, a data warehouse environment and at least one business intelligence & visualisation tool (PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik)
  • Expert skills in excel that extend far beyond simple data manipulation
  • At least 5 years of experience working in a commercial or academic setting

Desirable Criteria:

  • Proficiency in data warehousing architecture
  • Understanding of acute hospital operations, including models of care, funding models, health information management and patient administration
  • Experience with common hospital applications such as, but not limited to, patient administration systems (webPAS), KRONOS and Technology One
  • Proficiency in a common data analysis & programming language such as Python or R
