Are you an enthusiastic Speech Pathologist looking to join a dynamic Allied Health team? Providing holistic and effective support to patients at Newcastle Private Hospital.
As a Speech Pathologist your responsibilities will include:
  • Independent assessment and management of complex clients with acquired communication and/or swallowing disorders at Newcastle Private Hospital. Dysphagia assessments will be conducted and documented within 24 hours of referral
  • Assess and treat cognitive impairment in conjunction with other team members
  • Develop clearly defined treatment goals and plans, formulated in collaboration with the client and/or family
  • Liaise with other team members during the rehabilitation process and participate in relevant case conference, relative interviews and case management. Provide written handover on Speech Pathology clinical issues if unable to attend clinical meetings
  • Provide / prescribe exercises and aids for augmentative communication relevant to patient’s needs, both on ward and for discharge
  • Arrange follow up management for clients prior to discharge, along with a comprehensive discharge report or summary as required
  • Participate in the education process of self, staff, clients and family/carers
  • Assist in the planning, organisation, development and coordination of Speech Pathology services
  • Ensures documentation of assessments, plans, interventions and outcomes are within professional practice for Speech Pathology and Healthscope documentation guidelines
  • Collect statistics as directed by management.

Selection Criteria:
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Speech Pathology
  • More than 3 years experience as a Speech Pathologist
  • Eligibility for membership to Speech Pathology Australia
  • Exceptional time management and communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Commitment to professional development
