The Opportunity
Our Administration Services team at Brisbane Private Hospital have a new opportunity for an experienced Ward Clerks/Medical Administrator to join our team in a busy General Surgery and Paediatric ward on a full time basis.
Working in a critical role, this person will be accountable for providing admin support on a busy ward to assist our clinical team- nursing staff, specialists and allied health professionals as well as deliver a high level of patient experience.
The successful applicant will have the following skills and attributes: -
Ability to multitask and prioritise independently
Excellent time-management skills
Good written and oral communication skills with ability to work alongside clinicians and nurses
Team player attributes
Exceptional customer service skills with an empathetic approach.
Ability to follow instructions and deliver on timely goals.
Key functions include:
- Following Ward procedures to prepare for discharges and arrivals
- co-ordination of cleaning and bed allocation
- Meeting and Greeting Patients, including children and parents
- Liaising with nurses and other professionals with any ad-hoc or additional requests
- Answering phone calls from other departments and actioning/referring
- Preparation of patient files, appointment lists and coordination with other ward clerks to obtain ward patient files
- Medical record filing
- Providing any other clerical support to the clinical team

Brisbane Private is a 181 bed acute and rehabilitation hospital with 17 operating theatres conveniently located above the Roma Street Parklands. Specialties include neurosurgery, orthopaedics, spinal, plastics, urology, ENT, Rehabilitation and general surgery and delivery of Brisbane’s leading private drug and alcohol programs from Damascus Health Services.
Essential Criteria
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Well organised, able to prioritise, plan and work under pressure
- Experience in working within a multidisciplinary team, successfully
- Ability to learn fast
- Reliable, professional and well presented
- Competent computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook)
- Able to do early starts (6am)
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge in medical terminology & procedures
- Previous experience in a Ward Clerk position OR a medical/specialist suite co-ordinator
- Experience with Webpas Medical Software System
